(1) Foreword
Filters play a significant role as the kidneys of water purifiers, and there are hundreds, if not thousands, of filter manufacturers around the world. This article will focus on the top 100 filter manufacturers in Taiwan.
Taiwan has always been a major manufacturer of water hardware. When both the information and technology of reverse osmosis water purifiers spread to Taiwan in the 1980s, it was logical that many manufacturers in this major water hardware country would want to enter the reverse osmosis (RO) industry. Therefore, from the 1980s onwards, there has been a gradual increase in RO machine production and assembly companies. Specifically, over the past 30 years, more and more companies have become involved in water purification in Taiwan, gaining international recognition.
At present, in addition to selling their own branded products, I believe that more than 80% of these companies still primarily produce RO machines or water purifiers for foreign customers. If foreign customers wish to find a suitable OEM company among the many firms in Taiwan, it can often take a considerable amount of time. Although it may be relatively straightforward to locate a factory via a Google search using either the Internet or phone, it is challenging to ascertain whether the company is an assembly plant or merely a trader. If the company is not a manufacturer, it is nearly impossible for foreign customers to obtain either the best price or professional technical support from them.
For RO machines or water purifiers, the quality and effectiveness of the filter elements are paramount. Therefore, to enable customers searching for a factory to find a manufacturer within the shortest possible time, this article has specifically compiled a list of companies that manufacture and produce filter elements for reference.
(2) The conditions for selecting water purifier OEM/ODM manufacturers are as follows:
2-1 The company is registered in Taiwan
As previously mentioned, the filter element is very important to the water purifier, so it is essential that the manufacturer is a legally registered company, ensuring that the government has taken the first step. Taiwan is a world-renowned producer, providing affordable yet high-quality products. Therefore, this should be the primary criterion.
2-2 Has received export orders and possesses export experience
When initially approaching a company, it must be an English-speaking business, as foreign customers seeking OEM/ODM water purifiers can communicate more easily. Companies with export experience are familiar with the export process, which not only reduces ineffective communication with customers but also enables them to assist foreign customers who have never imported products. They can share their experience to help customers complete orders and deliveries in a timely manner. Furthermore, if a company sells to various countries, it will be better equipped to understand the specific needs of water purifier specifications in different markets.
2-3 Accepts customer OEM orders
Some companies only produce filters for certain specific specifications, making it difficult for us to determine whether the selected company can fully accept OEM orders. However, the companies listed in the following table, based on our data collection, all have their own filter production facilities. This allows the company in search to save considerable time in locating a factory that produces filter cores.
2-4 Has its own production line
Only by having its own production line can a company guarantee the delivery date of the product, ensuring that customers rarely have to wait long to know when their products will be delivered. In recent years, particularly, shipping space has often been tight, and shipping schedules have remained chaotic. If customers cannot receive direct answers regarding delivery dates, it becomes impossible to book shipments and dispatch goods immediately. Therefore, in the current situation, where shipping schedules and sea freight are both unpredictable, fast and on-time delivery for an order is relatively important. Additionally, the most crucial factor is that the factory has its own production department, making it easier to control the quality of the products. If raw materials, production, quality control, and shipment are all managed by the same company, customers can feel assured about the receipt of their products.
(3) Filter Specifications
Before reading the following content, we first need to understand the basics of the filter core. Generally, the filter core has three specifications, namely:
3-1. General Standard Filter
Filters come in many sizes, such as: 10”, 20”, 30” and 40” lengths, with widths ranging from 2.5” to 4.5”. Please refer to picture 1 below. A 10″ filter refers to a length of 10 inches, with 1 inch being 2.54 cm. The 2.5″ measurement refers to the width of the filter. This type of standard filter element cannot be used on its own. The filter element must be placed into a filter housing for use, allowing water to pass through smoothly and enabling effective filtration. We will write another article about filter housings to introduce the various types of filter housings for the reference of trustees.

Among them, the 10” x 2.5” filter is the most commonly seen filter on the market, often found in hardware stores and hypermarkets, as it is a frequently purchased filter. If not required for specific needs, this is the standard for household filters of this specification.
In fact, the so-called ‘10″ length’ is actually 9-7/8″ or 9-3/4″. These two measurements are standard lengths. The traditional filter cartridges commonly found on the market conform to the above sizes of filter cores.
Most of these filters are installed in either traditional RO (reverse osmosis) systems or in ordinary water purifiers. The three most widely used filters are: PP, CTO, and UDF.
- PP is a filter core made of melt-blown polypropylene, which is used to block large impurities in water, such as sediment, hair, rust, or algae. It is usually installed as the primary filter in the first position.
- UDF is granular activated carbon with exceptionally strong adsorption capabilities, which can effectively remove residual chlorine, odours, and decolouration. If placed before the membrane, it can significantly extend the membrane’s lifespan.
- CTO is an activated carbon rod, produced through the sintering of activated carbon. It is primarily used for the removal and filtration of chlorine, odours, decolouration, and impurities. It is usually installed in the second or third filter position.
As for standard filters of the other sizes mentioned in this article, they are mostly used in whole-house, commercial, and industrial water purification systems.
3-2. Regular Disposable Housing Filter
The T33 filter element (also known as the small T) is a typical 10” long example of this type of filter found on the market. For a traditional RO machine, this is the filter element installed behind the membrane. It does not need to be loaded into the filter housing, as it is directly connected to the joint and PE pipe for use. Its purpose is not filtration but to enhance water quality; due to its filling of “coconut shell granular activated carbon”, the water tastes better when consumed.
The term “10”” here also refers to the general measurement for the length of the filter core. The sizes of water inlets and outlets are mostly 1/4” (commonly referred to as 2 points), which can be divided into NPT internal threads or quick-connect tube assemblies. There are also 3/8” (commonly referred to as 3 points) and 1/2” (commonly referred to as 4 points) external and internal thread specifications, though these are less frequently encountered. The purpose of different sizes for water inlets and outlets is to allow the filter to be installed in various locations, such as toilets, refrigerators, or gardens. Additionally, there are general-gauge disposable housing filters that are longer than the T33, usually 11″ in length. There are also filters measuring about 6″, suitable for use in water purifiers with limited space. The most common of these are PP, carbon block, granular activated carbon (GAC), and resin. Different filter materials can be used to fill the filter core shell according to various needs, with each material offering distinct filtering effects. Below is an illustration of the general standard disposable housing filter for readers’ reference.

The above two types are standard filters that users can purchase quite easily from general hardware or water supply stores in the market.
3-3. Special Quick Release Filter Element
As the name suggests, this is a specially specified filter. Over the past few years, this type of filter has gradually gained popularity. Homeowners can replace this filter themselves, eliminating the need to hire a plumber, which is ideal in an age where labour is both scarce and expensive. Furthermore, because it features a quick-release design, individuals of all genders and ages can replace it themselves, making it more convenient than traditional filters. However, due to the variety of manufacturers and differing specifications of the filter element owing to its special nature, these must be purchased from a specialised store.
Although this is a special filter, the inlet and outlet of the pipeline are similar to the aforementioned styles, with either 1/4” or 3/8” specifications, and the filter materials used are generally the same as those mentioned above.
The above outlines several different quick-release filter styles, provided here for the reader’s reference.
