How to Choose PP Filter Cartridges?

PP cartridges are very common basic filters, typically used to block larger impurities in water such as sediment, suspended particles, hair, rust, etc., composed of melt-blown polypropylene fibres.

Generally, household water purifiers using PP cartridges have filtration apertures ranging from approximately 1 micron, 5 microns, 10 microns, to 20 microns.

The characteristics of PP cartridges include resistance to pressure build-up, corrosion resistance, safety, low cost, and effective filtration. Various types of water purifiers and RO machines typically use PP cartridges as the first stage of filtration.

Depending on the structure of PP cartridges, they can be classified into straight cylinder, groove type, and foldable types. Straight cylinder types have poorer impurity capture capability and shorter lifespan but are the most affordable and commonly used in standard water purifiers.

Foldable types offer the best filtration capacity and are the most expensive per unit. Groove type PP cartridges balance filtration quality and economy.

PP cartridges typically require replacement every 2-3 months. Visual inspection can reveal impurities, sediment, or rust discoloration on the surface of PP cartridges. Despite their low cost, it’s important not to purchase them indiscriminately, as some cheaply made PP cartridges may have large filtration aperture errors due to rough manufacturing processes or insufficient density, causing deformation under high water pressure and ineffective impurity capture, leading to clogging issues with subsequent high-precision filters.
