Iran – Market Survey Report on Water Purifiers

A) Iran is a country that cannot be overlooked.

It is a large market with a population of 80.28 million, and there are about 13 countries surrounding Iran that have oil resources. These countries are wealthier than others. If Iranian products become internationally competitive, they will have unlimited potential for export trade with neighbouring countries.

B) It has great potential for consumption.

Iran is a country rich in resources and potential. Its production of natural gas and petroleum ranks among the highest in the world. Despite economic sanctions imposed by the USA and the frequent depreciation of the Iranian rial (IRR), its economy continues to grow.

C) The status of the RO water dispensers market

As of 20th December 2017, around 5 million RO water machines had been sold in Iran. Moreover, according to estimates from local importers in Iran, the market demand for RO water dispensers could reach 15 million units (assuming each household replaces theirs with a new one every 10 years).

D) The development trend and evolution of RO water dispensers.

From 2000 to 2005, only Aquajoy and Ronak were active in the market.
However, from 2006 to 2010, around 10 additional brands entered the market, such as Easywell, Purepro, and Fluxtek.
From 2013 to 2015, more than 50 brands were fiercely competing in this market, including ALYA, Easywell, Puritec, and Masoumi.
By 2016 to 2017, the number of brands in the market had increased to over 100, with most originating from Iran. These brands procured key components from China and performed simple processing and assembly in Iran.

E) Counterfeits are rampant.

In 2017, EaseweLL was the best-selling and most recognised brand from Taiwan to Iran. However, as the saying goes, “tall trees catch the wind,” and local assemblers in Iran frequently counterfeited its trademark. It was difficult to guard against, causing problems for Taiwanese manufacturers. Some local factories even engaged in injection moulding themselves, yet inscribed “Made in Taiwan” on their products, blending the counterfeit with the genuine.
