(1) Water is more expensive than oil
We often joke that “water is more expensive than oil,” and in Saudi Arabia, this saying holds true.
Nearly 100% of Saudi Arabia’s tap water comes from desalinated seawater, and the majority of the water used by the public is still subsidised by the government. Meanwhile, 91-octane unleaded petrol costs only NT$6.5 per litre. So, you see, water really is more expensive than oil!
Because tap water is derived from seawater desalination, it still contains a large amount of sodium ions, which can have a significant impact on cardiovascular health. This is why Taiwan exports so many water purifiers to Saudi Arabia.
In Riyadh, the landscape is mostly desert as far as the eye can see. It rains fewer than ten times a year, and most of the greenery requires financial investment to cultivate. Even planting a lawn requires the purchase of soil for the grass to grow.

(2) Unreasonable Trade Terms
It is said that even after signing an agency agreement with a Saudi Arabian client, they failed to fulfil the contractual obligations. Under Saudi law, it is also stipulated that the seller cannot revoke the agency rights. This information still requires further verification.
Additionally, in order to ensure food safety, the Saudi government mandates that not only daily necessities and food products must have SASO certification, but also items such as taps, bathroom fittings, and water purification equipment. Products must have SASO certification before they can be exported to Saudi Arabia. Without this certification, they will be refused entry by Saudi customs. The most troublesome aspect is that the application process for SASO certification is time-consuming and the handling fees are expensive

(3) Tap Water Pressure
The water pressure in Riyadh is 3 kg/cm². The water pressure supplied by Saudi Arabia’s National Water Company is not high, similar to Taiwan, where every household needs to have its own booster pump and install large water storage tanks on the roof. In Saudi Arabia, 90% of water storage tanks are made of UV-resistant plastic.
In Dammam, the water pressure, tested by the editor, is 5 kg/cm², which is considered relatively high.
