(A) Foreword
Turkey is a special country. Although their currency has depreciated significantly, their economic growth rate continues to rise.
Why is this? Because the people living here work hard; most wish to earn money, especially those who own businesses in the water filter industry.
The water quality in Turkey is not very good, with high TDS (Total Dissolved Solids). For information on Turkey’s water quality, please refer to: https://goo.gl/1YQfj6.
Initially, Turkish water filter buyers imported a large number of complete sets of water filters and residential reverse osmosis water systems from Taiwan and Korea. However, they soon discovered that prices from China were much lower than those in these countries, so they switched their orders to China. Very soon afterwards, they returned their orders to Taiwan, as they complained about the poor quality from the lower-priced country.
Ten years ago, the water filter market in Turkey became increasingly competitive, prompting Turkish buyers to become manufacturers themselves. Companies such as Fil-tek, Richwater, ESLI, and Hazar established numerous factories producing cartridges, water pressure tanks, filter housings, boost pumps, and more.
This is not good news for Taiwanese manufacturers, as they are losing orders to these companies.
(B) Trend of the Water Filter Market in Turkey
In Turkey, the TDS of water quality ranges from 177 to 370 ppm; please refer to: http://t.cn/R33QGuP. Therefore, residential reverse osmosis (RO) water systems are very popular in this market, not only traditional RO systems but also compact RO systems.
Nowadays, most RO system manufacturers are developing complete sets of residential compact RO systems. However, they have built in a 4-gallon pressure storage tank within the machine casing, resulting in these “compact” RO systems appearing rather large instead of compact.
(C) Special Street Offers Water Filters
In downtown Istanbul, many water filter dealers have set up shops selling water filters, RO water systems, and related components on the same street, which is named “Karakoy.”
(D) 2017 Export Total Amount of Water Filters from Taiwan to Turkey
The total was 6.1%.
(E) Turkey’s Import Tax for Water Filters
- Complete set machines: 1.8%
- Filter housings and related parts: 6.5%
- Filter cartridges: 1.8%
- Carbon filter cartridges: 4%
- Other filter parts: 1.0% – 2.5%
